Senator Tillis Defends Trump’s Disproven Wiretapping Conspiracy Theory

RALEIGH, NC – During an appearance last night on MSNBC, Senator Tillis was pressed repeatedly on the truth of President Trump’s unfounded allegation that Trump Tower had been wiretapped by President Obama. Despite conclusive evidence that no surveillance took place, Tillis repeatedly defended President Trump’s bizarre claims during the interview.

Tillis’ dissembling came just days after FBI Director Comey and NSA Director Rogers confirmed in a hearing that there is zero evidence of any surveillance of Trump during last year’s campaign. Congressional leaders from both parties, including Senator Richard Burr, have similarly stated that no evidence exists to support Trump’s conspiracy theory tweets.

“It’s apparent from this interview that Senator Tillis values his loyalty to the President over his loyalty to the truth or any semblance of reality,” said NCDP Executive Director Kimberly Reynolds. “Senator Tillis and Republicans in Congress should be working to create good-paying jobs and move our economy forward, instead they’re wasting our time and money by continuing to defend President Trump’s disproven claims.”
