Someone Tell Fred Smith Actions Speak Louder than Words

Republican gubernatorial hopeful Fred Smith writes in his memoir that “North Carolina needs a chief executive who understands the first, unspoken rule of leadership: show up.”

Smith should take his own advice.

He missed more than 300 votes this year, according to statistics from the General Assembly’s Legislative Drafting Division.

The Greensboro News & Record also tagged Fred Smith as missing a quarter of all votes taken this year, or 318 out of 1,238.

As an absentee state senator, Fred Smith missed crucial votes on education, mental health parity, the environment, and growth.

For Fred Smith, actions speak louder than words.

"Fred Smith talks a big game even when his record doesn't support the talk,” NCDP Chair Jerry Meek said. “ Voters deserve an elected official who will actually show up for work. Of course, given the way Fred Smith votes, perhaps voters would be better off if he had missed more votes."

Oh you mean people. Doesn't

Oh you mean people. Doesn't this poor boy deserve a free pass at least 1/4 of the time? I'm sure he has to have a little Fredly time to sit back and contemplate his childhood. After all, growing up in an orphange, (the one where his parents worked), had to be very hard on his adult psyche.

Most of his personal income

Most of his personal income comes from contracts paving over the state NC, and he can't be bothered to show up to vote in order to represent the people he was already elected by? Why on earth would anyone want this guy for governor? Sheesh.

I'd have to agree with Jerry

I'd have to agree with Jerry on this one. I don't like paying him when he misses so many votes, but he gets it wrong most of the time anyway. I will tell you this, though -- this Johnston Democrat is tired of paying taxes and getting representation from a man who's only passions appear to be the accumulation of wealth and the legalization of a special brand of religious bigotry against some of his fellow citizens.

Everybody will tell you that back in the day Fred was really good at bill collecting, and he's still good at house building, development planning and for-profit bid'ness running. I happen to think he should'a quit while he was ahead. ... for two reasons:

1) It looks to me like the man was standing behind the door when God was handing out humility, mercy, grace, kindness, empathy, tolerance and compassion and I happen to be one of those who thinks that a representative of ALL the people needs at least a smidgen of those traits in his mind and soul.

2) A government of, by and for the people -- ALL the people -- must be managed reasonably and responsibly, but government is not a for-profit business and it cannot and must never be run like a for-profit business. Societies run like businesses -- where the bottom line is paramount and the almighty dollar Rules -- are run for the benefit of the few (the bosses) at the expense of the many (the people). Societies run like that are not democracies.

For the sake of everyone involved, please come home and run your businesses Fred.

Fred Smith is a big boy now.

Fred Smith is a big boy now. He can take care of himself. Unfortunately, he believes in screwing North Carolinians by getting elected to represent the people, then not showing up for work...and my tax dollars are paying his salary?

Didn't you know Fred grew up

Didn't you know Fred grew up in an orphanage? Come on, be nice to the poor guy.
