Liddy Dole Missed the Memo

A new ad unveiled today by the North Carolina Federation of College Democrats calls into question the voting record of Senator Elizabeth Dole, specifically her continued support of the failed war policies of President Bush. The advertisement is the first of many efforts to come by the Federation aimed at replacing Dole with a senator who accurately reflects to values of North Carolinians.

“In the ad Elizabeth Dole speaks for herself and proves just how out of touch she is with the views of this state.” said Laura De Castro, president of the Federation. “North Carolinians are tired of the Iraq War, are tired of President Bush and his broken policies, and are tired of Liddy Dole misrepresenting them. It is time for the voters of North Carolina to elect a senator who really represents them!”

In September Senator Dole voted for the sixth time this year against bringing a safe and speedy end to the war in Iraq. Her vote came as an overwhelming majority of North Carolinians (65% according to a September Elon University poll) expressed dissatisfaction with the president’s handling of the war. The ad accuses Dole of continuing to use the threat of “weapons of mass destruction” as justification for her blind support of the war even though no weapons have been found and even the president himself has admitted that they do not exist. As the number of American casualties in the ongoing conflict continues to escalate to over 3,800 the Federation insists that it is time for a new direction to end the war in Iraq and time for a new senator from North Carolina to deliver it. Senator Dole is up for reelection in 2008. A recent Public Policy Polling survey found only 45% of North Carolinians approve of her job performance. Democrats Kay Hagan, John Ross Hendrix, and Jim Neal have announced their intentions to unseat her. [Public Policy Polling September 07]

Kay Hagan actually works for the people of NC!

NC Senator Kay Hagan is running against Elizabeth Dole in 2008. THIS Senator has made the difference in SO MANY lives of average, every day North Carolinians. She has so much energy and is willing to speak off the cuff (try to get Elizabeth Dole to make a comment without a script - isn't going to happen!). We've got to get someone younger, more vibrant and with a better grasp of North Carolina and our priorities. Liddy will pull out all the stops. We have to work hard to get a Senator in place in Washington who listens, cares and even actually knows those of us in the state!
