Gov. Easley Announces 31 Jobs In Wilson County

Gov. Mike Easley today announced that TYM-USA will open an assembly facility in Wilson County, creating 31 jobs and investing $1.1 million during the next three years.  The announcement was made possible in part by a $30,000 One North Carolina Fund grant.

“North Carolina is 12th in the nation in the automotive truck, bus and heavy equipment industry, with more than 1,000 companies,” Easley said.  “Our state’s investment in workforce training and education keeps us competitive in this growing sector of the global economy.”

TYM-USA is the U.S. subsidiary of South Korean tractor manufacturer Tong Yang Moolsan Co.  The company will open a facility in Wilson for the assembly of diesel tractors used in construction and agriculture.  While wages will vary by job function, the average weekly wage of the new jobs will be $846 plus benefits, which is more than the Wilson County average weekly wage of $615 not including benefits.

“We seriously considered several locations for the new operation, but decided that Wilson County was the place to be, as it offers all that we were looking for,” said Robert Mullett, president of TYM-USA. “We received excellent assistance from local government officials, which helped us reach our decision.”

“North Carolina is providing the economic climate and workforce that growing companies, such as TYM-USA are looking for,” said state Sen. A.B. Swindell (D-Nash, Wilson).  “This is the kind of decision that helps communities, particularly in the more rural parts of our state, thrive and grow.”

“Cooperation between the state and local governments, along with economic development agencies, were critical in bringing TYM-USA to Wilson County,” said state Rep. Joe P. Tolson (D-Edgecombe, Wilson).  “I will continue to work in the General Assembly for policies that encourage the kind of growth our communities need.”

The One North Carolina Fund assists the state in industry recruitment and expansion by providing financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. One North Carolina Fund grants require and are contingent upon a local match. Through the use of this Fund, more than 28,000 jobs and $4 billion in investment have been created since 2001.

Other partners that helped make this announcement possible include the N.C. Department of Commerce, Wilson County, the Wilson Economic Development Council and Wilson on the Move.
