As someone who has dedicated his life to the Democratic Party and the ideals it represents, being elected Chair is the highest honor I could possibly imagine.
However, the challenges facing our state and our country are far too great for me, or the Party, to be complacent.
Despite our success in retaking the Executive Mansion, Republicans in the General Assembly remain focused on obstruction and political games. And in Washington, the progress we have made over the last eight years is in very real danger of being unraveled by an erratic President and his unprincipled allies in Congress.
The time for us to roll up our sleeves and fight back now. By coupling the strength of our Party’s organization with the incredible outpouring of energy we have seen in recent weeks we’re going to create a grassroots movement Republicans in Raleigh and Washington cannot ignore.
We’re going to support Governor Roy Cooper and hold Republicans in the General Assembly accountable. We’re going to make sure Congress supports and defends the constitution that they swore to uphold. And in 2020, we are going to take back the White House. And above all else, in 2018 we are going to work together to break the super-majority in the General Assembly.
The path ahead will be difficult, but I am confident that, with your support, we can get our state, and our country, moving in the right direction again.
