Strong fundraising positions Hagan to aggressively take on Dole
Kay Hagan’s U.S. Senate campaign today announced that Kay has raised more than $1.6 million in the second quarter of the year, strongly positioning her to aggressively take on Elizabeth Dole. The fundraising total leaves the campaign with $1.2 million cash on hand.
“This extremely strong fundraising total will enable us to aggressively compete with Elizabeth Dole and spread Kay’s message to as many North Carolinians as possible,” said Hagan Communications Director Colleen Flanagan. “Combined with a strong, grassroots program and an intense campaign schedule which continues to take Kay from one end of the state to the other to talk about her ideas to fix what’s broken in Washington, Elizabeth Dole’s days as a U.S. Senator are numbered.”
Since beginning her campaign for the U.S. Senate, more than 70% of individual contributions have come from North Carolinians. In the second quarter, Kay more than doubled the number of her individual contributors from the Tar Heel state.
“While big business and K Street lobbyists are funding Dole’s campaign, Kay’s campaign is being supported by North Carolinians and other concerned citizens who want to know why gas has increased 250% since Dole took office; why it’s more difficult to afford college or to find and keep a good-paying job; and why we still don’t have a responsible plan to end the war in Iraq to take the fight to Osama bin Laden and the terrorists in Afghanistan. Kay knows what needs to be done and looks forward to continuing to talk with voters about her plans to fix what's broken in Washington.”
Following the close of the second quarter, Kay has already hit the ground running in the third quarter. She has continued to raise money, while she and her campaign held 25 public events during the first week of July. Kay will attend the opening of the National Guard Family Assistance Center in Greenville on Thursday, and Kay will hold her third gas station stop in Greensboro on Friday.
