That's what Robin Hayes said. Doesn't it make you see red? He told the Montgomery County Superintendent of Schools"You need me more than I need you."
Really, it is documented in two Montgomery Herald articles.
Hayes challenging " You need me more than I need you!" to a Montgomery County Superintendent , was a Robin Hayes most of us had never seen. It exposed him as the politician, much like when he switched his vote, not once but twice to help President Bush pass a bill that hurt workers in the 8th district by just one vote. This was the Robin Hayes who inspired high school teacher Larry Kissell to run for Congress in the first place.
Why bring this up? Yesterday Hayes visited Montgomery County to discuss education (before heading to a country club to raise money for his campaign) . Apparently, he found out that maybe he does need the people of Montgomery County now that he is down in the polls. For too long he has played politics rather than help prevent the problems the community faces.
Remember, it goes far beyond his hypocrisy on education issues. Only two other Members out of the entire House and Senate have more stock in companies making money off the war in Iraq than Robin Hayes. We all know he is consistently listed as one of the wealthiest Members of either the House or Senate, but his investment in the war is really shocking.
The Center for Responsive Politics says Hayes ranks third in Congress when it comes to being heavily invested in defense-related companies. Hayes has between $9 million and $37 million of his personal assets invested in companies that have defense contracts...
This is the same Robin Hayes who promised "most of our forces will be home by 2008" before voting against a bill which would have done just that!
This is the same Robin Hayes who benefits from a trust fund worth MILLIONS in Exxon, Shell, BP and Chevron stock, but wants us to somehow believe he's concerned about the high price of gas on working families as he and his family benefit from big oil making the largest profits ever seen in the history of the world.
And this is the same Robin Hayes who voted three times against expanding the Children's Health Insurance program to cover more of our kids citing concern for the tobacco industry, and who owns millions in tobacco stock.
We need you.
The people of North Carolina's 8th District can't take two more years of this. The Associated Press has ranked our District among the 20 most economically devastated in the nation, and Robin Hayes has been at the helm too long.
Larry Kissell isn't a millionaire. He spent 27 years working in a textile mill. His friends aren't military contractors and oil executives. His friends are people like you and me and he is depending on us, as are the people of this district, to get him to Washington.
Larry needs your support more than ever! He can't do it alone. We are counting on you to help us level the playing field and kick the special interests out of the driver's seat.
