JJ Breakfast April 26 to Feature Prominent Clinton and Obama Surrogates

Members of Democratic Women of Wake County are looking forward to the 38th annual Jefferson-Jackson Breakfast. It will be held at the Sheraton Capital Center Hotel, 421 South Salisbury Street, Raleigh on Saturday April 26th. The breakfast will feature great speakers and updates from party leaders; and it will provide opportunities to meet candidates, visit with old Democratic friends, and make new friends.

This year we are proud to present prominent surrogates for both candidates seeking the Democratic Party nomination for President of the United States.

Senator Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota will speak for Senator Barack Obama. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is a lifelong Minnesotan, winning election to the United States Senate in 2006. A former prosecutor for Minnesota's largest county, Senator Klobuchar has never been afraid to take on the tough fights and stand up for what is right without fear or favor. She has dedicated her time in Washington to reforming government, standing up for consumers, promoting energy independence by tackling global climate change and advancing renewable energy resources, and creating opportunity for America's middle class families.

In her first year in the Senate, she's taken the lead to pass the most significant consumer product safety legislation in a generation, keeping toxic toys off our shores and out of our stores; secured millions in
transportation infrastructure funding, including the funds to rebuild Minneapolis' collapsed I-35W bridge; introduced numerous bills to secure health and education benefits for our nation's veterans; she's taken on the cell phone companies for more consumer-friendly policies; and joined Senator Obama in passing the most sweeping ethics reform since Watergate.

The Washington Post has described Klobuchar as "a rising star" and "a leading proponent of efforts to combat climate change" (not to mention the "funniest member of the Senate's freshman class").

Senator Klobuchar sits on the Senate Agriculture, Commerce, and Environment and Public Works Committees, as well as the Joint Economic Committee.

Irene Natividad will represent Senator Hillary Clinton. Ms Natividad is an educator and ardent activist for women's rights in both economic and political spheres. The former head of the National Women's Political Caucus, she is chair of the National Commission on Working Women (which works to improve the economic status of working women in the United States), director of the Global Forum of Women (a biannual international gathering of women leaders that convenes to explore leadership issues for women worldwide), executive director of the Philippine American Foundation (which implements programs to foster grassroots rural development to alleviate poverty in the Philippines) and principal of Natividad and Associates (which provides consulting services for groups wishing to reach specific segments of the voting constituency).
