Perdue campaign response to RGA attack
“Taking campaign finance advice from Pat McCrory and his allies is like taking economic policy advice from George Bush. Of course Pat McCrory’s already done that, in addition to bringing hundreds of thousands of dollars from Bush and the Republican Governors Association into North Carolina,” said Bev Perdue spokesman David Kochman.
Facts about Pat McCrory and the RGA NC 2008 PAC
• Democracy North Carolina – one of the leading government watchdogs in North Carolina – has filed an official complaint with the State Board of Elections based on reports that contributors to the RGA were not aware that their checks were instead being deposited into an account in North Carolina.
• According to the campaign finance loophole being exploited by the RGA PAC, the PAC will be able to spend and raise millions of dollars without disclosing any additional expenditures or fundraising until less than one week before the election.
• Despite the questionable fundraising tactics employed by the RGA NC 2008 PAC, Pat McCrory “is welcoming the association's help.” (Charlotte Observer, 7/24/08)
• A Charlotte Observer editorial last week criticized Pat McCrory’s lobbyist and PAC fundraising activities: “The fundraising letter looks more like it's part of the discredited ‘pay to play’ system than the pitch of a reformer.”
