North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman David Young made the following statement in honor of the eighth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks:

“Today, we honor the courage and sacrifice of the victims and heroes of September 11th.

We also thank our armed forces and their families for the continued sacrifices they make to ensure freedom abroad and safety at home.

But they cannot bear the burden alone.

We all have an obligation to do what we can to help our fellow neighbor in need. Checking on an elderly neighbor, teaching a child to read, or offering to babysit for a single parent are not just random acts of kindness. These are the tithes we pay for freedom because democracy flourishes where compassion lives.”
