Non-Partisan Cook Report Changes NC-10 Race Ranking

District No Longer "Solid Republican" Because of Daniel Johnson Campaign's Increasing Strength

The Cook Political Report, an independent, non-partisan newsletter that analyzes campaigns, today moved the race in North Carolina's 10th Congressional District out of the "Solid Republican" category.

The Cook Political Report included Daniel Johnson's challenge to Rep. Patrick McHenry on a list of races "worth keeping tabs on."

"The people of the 10th District are ready for a change in leadership. We need a Congressman who will put aside partisan politics and work hard to solve the serious problems facing our District-the skyrocketing cost of gasoline, the need for new, high-paying jobs, and the care of our military men and women," said Johnson. "From Banner Elk to Boiling Springs, people are excited and energized about our campaign. "

The change in the NC-10 race ranking comes on the heels of an independent poll by Public Policy Polling that found two-term incumbent Rep. Patrick McHenry without a plurality of support in the District. The June poll found that 55% of voters either disapprove or are unsure about McHenry's job performance.
