Today Daniel Johnson for Congress released its second television ad, "Keep." The ad will air on the network broadcast television stations of North Carolina's 10th Congressional District.
The ad contrasts Congressman Patrick McHenry's record of failed leadership on the economy with Daniel Johnson's commitment to serving the best interests of the working families of Western North Carolina.
Congressman McHenry advocates risking our Social Security on the stock market. McHenry has repeatedly taken to the House floor to push for privatizing social security, and the McHenry campaign website declares that Americans should place their Social Security savings in the "safe options" of stock funds. Given the recent volatility of the financial markets, Western North Carolina families cannot afford to gamble with their Social Security.
McHenry supports free trade deals with South American and Middle Eastern countries. McHenry voted for both the United States-Peru Trade Agreement (H.R. 3688) and the United States-Oman Free Trade Agreement (H.R. 5684), which were opposed by both Republican and Democratic members of the North Carolina delegation. Both bills were modeled after NAFTA and CAFTA, which had a disastrous effect on Western North Carolina manufacturing jobs.
"Congressman McHenry works for the people who sent him to Washington-Wall Street banks and big international corporations," said Campaign Manager Lauren Moore, "Daniel Johnson will stand up for fair and enforceable trade laws and will work to cut the national deficit so that the Social Security Trust Fund can remain solvent."
"Keep" can be viewed here.
The script reads:
In these tough economic times, can we afford to keep Patrick McHenry in Congress?
McHenry supports risking our Social Security in the stock market. And he voted for unfair trade deals that have cost us thousands of jobs.
Daniel Johnson will bring real change to Congress. Johnson served our country with honor and distinction, then worked as a prosecutor.
In Congress, Daniel Johnson will fight unfair trade deals that ship jobs overseas and he'll always protect Social Security.
