Obama, Clinton appeal together for party unity

Rivals turned allies, Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton made a display of unity Friday in a hamlet named for it, their first joint public appearance since the divisive Democratic primary race ended.

"Unity is not only a beautiful place as we can see, it's a wonderful feeling, isn't it? And I know when we start here in this field in Unity, we'll end on the steps of the Capitol when Barack Obama takes the oath of office as our next president," Clinton said just after she and Obama took the stage together.

Tomorrow, June 24, North Carolina voters will be going to the polls once again to decide the statewide Democratic primary race for the post of NC Commissioner of Labor between Mary Fant Donnan and John C. Brooks.

There is also a run-off between Democrats Don Davis and Kathy A. Taft in NC State Senate District 5. Some counties also have local government or school board run-offs scheduled.

Per North Carolina law, all regular voting sites in your county will be open for the primary run-off on June 24 from 6:30 AM until 7:30 PM.

Larry Kissell Leads Robin Hayes in New Poll

Larry Kissell, Democratic Congressional Nominee in North Carolina's 8th District, today released internal polling results that show him leading incumbent Congressman Robin Hayes 45%-43% in an initial head-to-head match up. Showing Kissell's strength, the poll was taken at the same time Hayes was airing deceptive, negative ads against Kissell.

8th District toss-up

Analysts with The Cook Political Report, an independent newsletter that researches elections, has ranked the 8th Congressional District a toss-up.

Two years ago, Rep. Robin Hayes, a Republican from Concord, fended off Democratic challenger Larry Kissell by 327 votes. The race garnered 121,523 votes...

The Cook Report just a month ago had rated the 8th District as "leaning Republican." On June 5, it was moved to the toss-up category.

The North Carolina Democratic Party congratulates Senator Barack Obama for winning enough delegates to become our party’s presumptive presidential nominee.

“This is a historic election,” said NCDP Chair Jerry Meek. “It’s not just because our presumptive nominee is the first African-American to do so. It is historic because North Carolinians have an opportunity to change the course of this country.”

“John McCain offers nothing but a third Bush term,” Meek said. “A McCain presidency means high gas prices, an even weaker economy, and no clear path to responsibly end the war in Iraq.”
