Hagan Campaign Calls On Dole To Return $21K From Indicted Republican Senator Ted Stevens

As chair of NRSC, Dole accepted more than $230K from Stevens’ Committees

State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan’s campaign today called on Elizabeth Dole to return $21,000 she personally received from indicted Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) between 2001 and 2007.

According to the indictment, Stevens “knowingly and willfully engaged in a scheme to conceal a material fact” covering up the gifts he received from an Alaskan oil company in return for his help on funding, grant and contract requests for the firm.

Strong fundraising positions Hagan to aggressively take on Dole

Kay Hagan’s U.S. Senate campaign today announced that Kay has raised more than $1.6 million in the second quarter of the year, strongly positioning her to aggressively take on Elizabeth Dole. The fundraising total leaves the campaign with $1.2 million cash on hand.

“This extremely strong fundraising total will enable us to aggressively compete with Elizabeth Dole and spread Kay’s message to as many North Carolinians as possible,” said Hagan Communications Director Colleen Flanagan. “Combined with a strong, grassroots program and an intense campaign schedule which continues to take Kay from one end of the state to the other to talk about her ideas to fix what’s broken in Washington, Elizabeth Dole’s days as a U.S. Senator are numbered.”
