To mark Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton and NCDP AAPI President Edward M. Binanay released the following joint statement:  

“The North Carolina Democratic Party joins the nation in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. This month, we recognize the contributions and achievements of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across North Carolina and the United States. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are a diverse group of people with rich and varied histories. They have come to North Carolina from all over the world, bringing with them their cultures, languages, and traditions. They have made significant contributions to our state in every field, from business to education, government, and the arts.

“This year, we are especially proud to celebrate the first Asian American women to serve in the North Carolina General Assembly, Representatives Maria Cervania and Ya Liu. These trailblazing women are an inspiration to us all.

“As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we must also stand up against the rising tide of hate and discrimination against our community. We must all work together to create a more just and equitable society for all. The North Carolina Democratic Party is committed to fighting for the rights of all Americans, regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin. We will continue to work to build a North Carolina where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.”
