Today, Dr. Jenna Beckham, a practicing OBGYN, North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Dr. Bobbie Richardson, and State Representative Gale Adcock, a former nurse practitioner, hosted a press conference on the dangerous impact of Congressman Budd’s extreme record restricting women’s health care.

“As a practicing OBGYN, I am honored to care for patients across their lifespan and to share in their experiences of some of their most joyful and also some of their most trying times. Providing excellent care to my patients is of utmost importance to me, and since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, I fear for my ability to do so. I also fear for the future of my patients and their freedom to make their own personal and private medical decisions. My message to Congressman Budd and politicians who think it’s their right to control reproductive health care decisions – listen to doctors…listen to me,” said Dr. Jenna Beckham.
“As a legislator; as a woman who had a miscarriage at 8 weeks before going on to have two full-term pregnancies; and as a nurse practitioner of 35 years. I prescribed contraceptives and provided pre-conceptual counseling. I also had conversations with patients when their contraception failed and they had an unplanned pregnancy. My patients trusted me with those conversations, and they made a lasting impression on me. No one—not the healthcare provider and certainly not elected officials—has the right to make this healthcare decision for any woman. To completely eliminate access to abortion—regardless of the circumstances—is not only an extremist policy—it’s unsafe for women,” said Rep. Gale Adcock.
“Congressman Budd is telling us exactly what he’ll do if elected to the U.S. Senate, and we must believe him. Today, you’ll hear from doctors about how dangerous that is for their patients. We are in a fight to make sure everyone has the power to control their own bodies, lives, and futures. We deserve elected officials who believe that as well,” said Chair Bobbie Richardson.
