NCDP Statement on the Passing of Rep. MaryAnn Black
Raleigh – Earlier today, the family of Representative MaryAnn Black announced her passing. Rep. Black has served her community for her entire career, including as a Durham County Commissioner and with her work to support the health and human services needs of Durham’s citizens through Duke University Health System.
North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin has released the following statement:
“The North Carolina Democratic Party is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Representative MaryAnn Black. She proudly served her local community long before joining the General Assembly, and was committed to improving the lives of all North Carolinians – from raising wages to advocating for environmental justice to addressing the opioid epidemic. I recall during my time as NC Insurance Commissioner she was also proved to be a fierce advocate for consumers. We mourn with the entire Black family but also celebrate the work of Representative Black and her commitment to a healthier, happier and better North Carolina.”
