Today, North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Bobbie Richardson released the following statement on Legislative Republicans’ vote to take power away from the Court’s ability to determine an appropriate remedy:

“The three-judge panel called the Republican drawn redistricting maps ‘the product of intentional, pro-Republican partisan redistricting.’ Republicans lied about their commitment to a fair and transparent process, cheated by using secret maps, and tried to steal political power despite pleas from the public and their democratic colleagues to improve the redistricting process and outcome.

“The existing delays could have been avoided if Legislative Republicans had been willing to address those concerns. Now they are attempting to take over the legal process by acting before the North Carolina Supreme Court has even made their decision. We must let the court rule first, then take the steps necessary to fix these partisanly gerrymandered maps.”
