NCDP Chairman Wayne Goodwin, LGBTQ Democrats of North Carolina Auxiliary President Ginger Walker, and NCDP Transgender Caucus Chair Janice Covington issued the following statement regarding a proposed policy change by the Department of Housing & Urban Development rolling back protections for homeless trans and non-gender conforming Americans:

“This proposal by Secretary Carson is just the latest attack from the Trump administration directed at the LGBTQ+ community. The change would allow federally funded homeless shelters to turn trans and gender non conforming Americans away simply because of their identity, endangering their health and safety in the middle of a global pandemic. This kind of blatant discrimination is cruel and entirely unacceptable. We condemn this move and demand the administration abandon its plan to move forward with this change.”
