The entire North Carolina Republican U.S. House delegation, including U.S. Senate candidate Ted Budd, last night voted against a bill to help alleviate baby formula shortages
North Carolina Democratic Party Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty released the following statement after the entire North Carolina Republican U.S. House delegation, including U.S. Senate candidate Ted Budd, voted against the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act late last night, which would provide emergency funding to address the shortage of infant formula in the United States. Every North Carolina Democrat voted for the bill.
“As Democrats are moving quickly to pass legislation that would help families and address the shortage of baby formula, North Carolina Republicans are all talk and no action when it comes to making sure we have the resources necessary to deal with this shortage. This vote is yet another example of how North Carolina Republicans aren’t interested in actually taking action to address the current formula shortfall and prevent this from happening again – they’re more interested in using North Carolina families’ struggles for their own political gain and pushing their radical, ultra-MAGA agenda. While North Carolina Republicans are pointing fingers and voting against solutions, Democrats are laser-focused on providing the resources to help the Tar Heel State address the infant formula shortage, and working to lower costs on everything from gas to groceries.”
This “no” vote is the latest in a long pattern of Republicans actively working against solutions. Earlier this year, 193 House Republicans, including almost all North Carolina Republicans, voted against capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month, while every North Carolina Democrat supported the bill. Additionally, every congressional Republican voted against the American Rescue Plan, which has saved North Carolinians’ money on everything from their health care premiums to rent or mortgage to child care costs, and more.
